Yizkor
The Hebrew word yizkor means remember.
Yizkor Artist's Statement
Postcards From the Past is my brother’s video about his genealogy discoveries that inspired the Yizkor Series.
The Yizkor Story began with a collection of water-damaged photographs from my grandmother’s home.
Click on photos to enlarge them; hover with mouse to read the captions. Descriptions are posted at the bottom of this screen.
Yizkor Pendant
Constructed over a denim base, the exterior is heavily textured with antique lace (from the collection of an unrelated Shoah survivor), cordless corduroy, antique buttons, dense beadwork, adjustable cord, and a thick fringe of freshwater pearls. The pocket holds a miniature of the 1920s postcard announcing Pesach and Dvora’s engagement.
Kosova and Me
This photo collage started with a copy of the 1930 photo. I duplicated Dvora’s outfit and placed my 20-year-old self beside her. The image was blurred to match my family’s blurry history. Reading right-to-left the scroll of handmade paper abruptly ends like an unfinished story.
Kosova Collage Series
This series of paper collages has gone missing; when it resurfaces, it will be posted on this page.
